1. P90X

This is the first full body training program I ever completed.  After years of lifting weights traditionally, I realized I needed to start a higher-intensity, full-body workout.  I have to say, this program was the initial reason I was able to achieve visible abs.  Seriously.  To get a lean, ripped body, one cannot focus on just one part of his/her body.  To get really cut, you need a program that does it all: lower body, upper body, core, abs, and even yoga.

What I really like about this program is that it meticulously lays out what you need to do on a daily basis and has a 1 hour work out for each day of the week.  In addition to this, you can do the entire workout inside your house.  This saves you commute time to the gym and also makes it easier to not make an excuse to skip a workout.

The only seemingly negative critique I could give this workout plan is that you need to be self- motivated.  If you make excuses, you can simply turn of the TV or not start it to begin with.  Obviously however, unless you have your own personal trainer, you need to decide to get fit for yourself.

2.  INSANITY

Insanity is a high intensity, cardio and interval training workout program.  While you have days that partially focus on your upper-body, lower-body, or core, the workouts are mainly designed to simply burn tons of calories in a short period of time.  While P90x workouts are usually around 60 minutes, Insanity workouts are 30-40 minutes.

Insanity workouts are great for getting your heart rate up, getting you sweating and, in general, getting you to shed weight.  This workout will produce a slim lean body without focus on specific muscles.  This is overall cardio training.

So, it all depends on what your goals are.  I personally benefited more from p90x because I wanted to be lean but also to biuld bigger muscles in my arms chest, and lower body.  When I do Insanity, I certainly stay trim but I don’t develop bigger muscles like I want.

If, however, your goal is to become fit, lean, and generally in shape.  This is the workout for you.  It is intense and professionally instructed.
